Steel mills, also known as steelworks, are industrial factories that specialize in the production of steel. They typically smelt down iron and carbon, mixing the two together in a specific ratio to create steel. Even if you’re familiar with this general concept, though, there are probably some things about steel mills you don’t know.
An integrated steel mill has all the functions for primary steel production:
iron making (conversion of ore to liquid iron),
steel making (conversion of pig iron to liquid steel),
casting (solidification of the liquid steel),
roughing rolling/billet rolling (reducing size of blocks)
product rolling (finished shapes).
General Industrial Technologies: Like any other industrial unit, a wide variety of conveyor belts, motors, heaters, boilers and re-boilers, exhausts, heat recovery units, pumps, pipelines, cranes, and other basic machines are incorporated in a steel plant.
